The Office of the Insurance Commissioner’s (OIC) Informational Technology Unit is seeking a motivated and qualified individual to fill a Desktop Engineer (IT System Administration-Journey) position. This position is assigned to the Operations Division, located in our Tumwater office.

In this position, you will be responsible for designing, architecting and supporting the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environment. This position will also support and maintain a more traditional desktop/laptop configuration environment for staff by using SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager). You will also be the first escalation point (tier 2) for issues that the IT service desk is unable to resolve. It will also provide system administration for our ECM (enterprise content management) platform.

Create and maintain a resilient VDI environment that is accessible from anywhere. Utilize enterprise performance monitoring tools to proactively monitor the VDI environment in real-time. Configure and maintain remote and secure access capabilities. Create and maintain accurate and up to date documentation and topology maps that outline the entire VDI environment. Utilizing tools such as SCCM, manage and support the agency’s desktop and laptops to ensure high availability and performance. Support the hardware and components of agency desktop and laptops including repair and replacement. Work closely with the ECM coordinator to identify, research, troubleshoot and resolve complex systemic issues. Serve as tier two support for the service desk and the first escalation point for end-user technical issues. Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or other related field and four (4) years qualifying professional IT experience*. OR An Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or other related field and five (5) years qualifying professional IT experience*. OR Six (6) or more years of recent professional experience in qualifying professional IT experience*. * Qualifying professional IT experience is defined as experience in all of the following IT disciplines: desktop engineering, virtualization, and technical support.

Additionally, after qualifying by a method above :

Four (4) or more years demonstrated experience with the following: Managing, configuring and administering an enterprise desktop configuration management environment. Supporting, administering and repairing traditional desktop and laptop computers. Providing tier 2 or advanced technical support to end-users.
Additional desired Qualifications of this position include :
Four (4) or more years demonstrated experience with the following: Managing, configuring and administering an enterprise virtual desktop environment supporting 100+ users. Managing, configuring and administering an enterprise desktop configuration management environment supporting 100+ users. Supporting, administering and repairing traditional desktop and laptop computers in an enterprise environment with 100+ users. Providing tier 2 or advanced technical support to end-users in an enterprise environment with 100+ users. Managing, configuring, administering and supporting an Enterprise Content Management system.
